I am the new me. Rotating Header Image

Sometimes it’s hard to blog on the weekend!

I was a bad blogger again! Monday morning & here I am posting Friday, Saturday & Sunday!

It’s going to be a big one, and a somewhat random one. I swear I just had 3 of the most random days of eating I have had in a while!

I went in to Friday knowing I had a lunch date with my friend Kirsten, and I also knew that I wanted a ‘naughty’ meal.  I was craving my favourite ‘burger’ from Cactus Club. It’s a chicken burger with cheese, bacon & BBQ sauce. Somewhere in there they throw some lettuce & onion too.

But let’s rewind for a second.

Breakfast. It was the usual.  My 7pts+ Oatmeal concoction, a cup of tea & my home made 4pts+ mocha.  I’ve pretty much stopped taking pictures of breakfast, since it is the same every day!

Now, back to lunch!  When I placed my order I was very clear with the server that I wanted yam fries, but only half the amount they would normally put on a plate. I knew that I was going to eat everything on my plate, so I opted to ask them to put less on my plate.   I tracked a total of 18pts+ for this meal.

The thing about having a HUGE meal like this is that it pretty much left me full for the rest of the day.  I was totally left with absolutely no desire to eat what so ever.

On my drive home from work, I had a little bit of a shock.  As I was headed north over the Malahat, a southbound motorcycle crossed the centre line in front of me and almost caused a 5(or more) vehicle pile up.  It was quite scary. When I got home I checked online to see if the road was closed again due to another accident.  I was certain, by the way this guy was driving, that once he was south of me, he would definitely cause an accident.  Luckily, there was nothing.

Anyway, after that, I desperately wanted a vodka & coke zero, but there is a serious shortage of vodka at the lake house!Instead I decided to make a ‘special hot chocolate’.  What makes it special? The Kahlua & french vanilla cream is what makes it special!

This baby cost me 8pts+ but it was worth every single one of them.  By the time I finished this, and had a phone call with N, I was totally relaxed and calm & had almost forgotten about the crazy motor cycle rider!

I slept like a dream Friday night. It was amazing.   But, I think it’s time to buy some vodka. I could have saved myself 4pts+!!

I started Saturday knowing that I had a high points day the day before, and that I was looking at a high points meal Saturday night, so I tried to make some choices by keeping that mind. Because breakfast needs to be mobile on Saturday, I tried something different.

In the I <3 Cup Cakes cup we have a WeightWatchers French Vanilla Smoothie(2pts+) made with 1/2 cup water & 1/2 cup skim milk(1pts+).  Because I knew what was ahead of me, I didn’t want to have my usual 6pts+ Saturday morning mocha, so instead I threw some instant coffee in my smoothie and made it in to my morning coffee.  It was tasty, but ended up not being satisfying enough.

By the time I left my WeightWatchers meeting I had eaten the Fibre 1(4pts+), banana and Babybel(1pts+). SO much for spreading my snacks out through the day.

I had a lot of running around to do on Saturday, so I had an on-the-go lunch at Quizno’s. Not the best choice when I am trying to conserve points for dinner, but I’ve been having these wicked melted cheese cravings lately & this 12pts+ sandwich totally satisfied those!

As I am typing this, and ‘confessing’ everything I ate this weekend, I can clearly see that my time of the month has impacted my food choices. I gave in to so many cravings that I could have normally controlled.

Speaking of cravings, on my way to pick up Jenn from her study group, I stopped at the grocery store and picked up a kit-kat dark, some beef jerky & some bananas. The Kit-Kat cost me 7pts+, the beef jerky was 2pts+ and the bananas ended up waiting until Sunday!

Jenn & I were off for a ‘girls night’ up at the lake house.

Our ‘the boys are out of town’ dinner happened at Merridale Ciderworks in Cobble Hill, BC.

It was a 3 course extravaganza of deliciousness.

The appetizer was listed as  “Merridale Antipasti Platter ~ A Selection of Cowichan Valley tastes”.  There was crostini made on the property, pickled vegetables, local cheese, house made duck pate, beer sausage & hummus.

I think Jenn would agree that we could have stopped there, but we didn’t.

The dinner was a special “Field to Table” dinner featuring Phillips Brewery . Jenn’s main course was Beef in Ale ~AAA Canadian Beef braised in Matt Phillips stout with root vegetables and seed mustard mashed potatoes. It looked delicious, but a little birdie had told me that there were ingredients in the meal that would have probably sent me to hospital.  There was a suggested beer pairing for each course, but since we were running the next day, and neither of us are big beer drinkers, we skipped the drinks.

So, since I had allergies in both of the main courses, the chef was kind enough to make me a caesar salad.  It was freaking HUGE, and after all those appetizers, I wondered how I would get through!  Well, it turns out that I got through less than half before I asked for it to be boxed up for me to take home.

Jenn & I were the first to finish the main course, probably because neither of us finished it and both had it boxed to take home.

That meant we were first to get our desserts.

Oh the desserts.

The menu lists the dessert as Chocolate Hazelnut Beer Bread Pudding with vanilla pastry cream.

I call it heaven.

I am pretty sure that by the time I was done with that plate, it was so clean they could have used it again without washing it.

The funniest part of the night was the fact that we were last to finish our desserts.  We ate every bite so slowly, savouring every last morsel of deliciousness that was on that plate.

Seriously. The entire evening was made by that dessert.

When I woke up Sunday morning, I grabbed my iPad from the nightstand and basically erased any daily, weekly & activity points that were available to me and started fresh.

There really was no way to sit down and dissect that evening to get an accurate points total.

Ahhhh, daylight savings.  An extra hour sleep was much welcome.

I had made my mind up that I was not getting out of bed before 8am on Sunday, so even though I was awake at 7:20am, I laid there playing words with friends until 8am.

Once I was out of bed, I had the usual 7pts+ oatmeal concoction and a cup of tea. Then another cup of tea, and possibly another.

Around 10am Jenn & I headed out for a less than stellar run.  We started with a plan to do about 9.5K, then changed it to a 10K, and then ended up turning around early and making it an 8K.  7 activity points earned, and immediately erased to count towards Saturday’s dinner!

For lunch I made a pasta dish that was full of power foods.  Whole wheat pasta, red onion, broccoli & chicken thigh.  The entire batch I cooked was worth 22 points, but I divided it in to 5 servings and counted 4pts+ for each serving.  We added 1pts+ worth of my favourite 3 cheese Italian blend for some extra flavour.  All in all, a satisfying 5pts+ lunch.

I know it doesn’t look like much here, but I had already eaten some of it before I remembered to take the picture. It was actually quite filling.

After lunch I hopped in the shower and got ready for work, while Jenn hung out on the couch.

Then it was time to pack up some food to get me through the evening at work.  0pts+ for the pineapple, when the juice is drained off. 1pts+ for the Babybel. 4pts+ for the fibre 1. 0pts+ for the banana.

I ate the banana while I was waiting in the car, talking to N on the phone,  while Jenn ran in to her house to grab her things and change for work. The rest was saved to eat before we opened the meeting.

It was our biggest meeting yet.  6 people came and 5 stayed for the meeting.  The time actually flew by as well because we were given a job to do while we were there.

When I got home I made a huge bowl of 94% fat free microwave popcorn and a cup of decaff tea and sat down to watch some ‘guilty pleasure’ TV shows on the computer.

I was still a little hungry when I was getting ready for bed, so I made myself a slice of toast(2pts+) with margarine(2pts+) and no sugar added strawberry spread(0pts+).

I told you it was a totally random weekend, didn’t I?

Now it’s Monday, it’s back to the 9-5 world, and back to routine.

I have a lunch date with a friend today, but I already know what I am having, and I know it will fit in with my plan!

Now, I have a question for you: How would you handle a night like Saturday? how would you track all that unfamiliar, unmeasured food?

To be honest, I probably wouldn’t even track all those YUMMY/NAUGHTY items. 😉

That’s my problem…that’s why I’ve gained a bit of my weight back.

(How many pts+ would the huge bowl of popcorn be? Is it SmartPop? I’ve been avoiding it, as I thought it would be too much, cause I would totally eat the whole bag) Another one of my problems LOL

    1. iamthenewme says:

According to the nutrition information on the box, it is 3pts+ per serving, and a serving is about half a bag. Since I had the whole bag, I tracked 6pts+

  2. Elise says:

Let’s see. I know the pickled veggies in the appetizer would be 0 and then I would probably estimate the crostini at 2 or 3 points. I’ve been tracking hummus at a point or two per tablespoon. Not sure about the pate and sausage. The salad I would track as a Caesar salad and count it as whatever the pocket guide or etools suggested. And the dessert? I really don’t know. All in all, it sounds like Saturday night was within reason, the portions of everything, especially the dessert look very reasonable.
