May, 2011:

I’ve been so lazy lately.

At least that’s what I was telling myself last Wednesday when I skipped Run Club to help a friend with something. I haven’t been to the gym since before the BMO Vancouver Marathon on May 1st and I’m pretty sure I’ve missed all but one Run Club since then too!  May has been such a lazy month for me. I keep having to remind myself of 2 things: First, I tell myself that after a big even like running a marathon  my body needs time to rest & heal. Second, I tell myself that it is ludicrous to consider a […]

Going for a short bike ride…

The day is almost here. 4 more sleeps until Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria. It’s hard to believe it’s almost here.   Back when I signed up I thought the event was a ‘long way’ away, and that I had all the time in the world to train for it. Then between the busy season at work, and marathon training,  it was May before I knew it.  I can’t believe how fast this year has flown by! I have to admit that after the marathon was over, I was of two mibnds about riding in the Tour. First: I’m too tired […]

Sometimes, just finishing is good enough!

I’m a competitive runner. Competitive with myself. I’m never going to WIN a race, but for the most part, I go in to each race hoping to run that particular distance faster than last time I ran it. There have been a few exceptions though. Last October, I ran the Shawnigan Lake Half Marathon, with the simple goal of just finishing it. Yesterday, I ran the Oak Bay Kool Half Marathon, with the goal of just finishing under 2hrs. This was my 3rd year running Oak Bay, and I had yet to crack the 2hr mark, even though most of […]

I ran a marathon (Part 2)

I ran a marathon. (Part 1)   Once I got to the skytrain station, there were a few other runners on the platform waiting for the train.  All of them wearing half marathon bibs.   For a moment it made me a little envious because of my love for the 21.1km distance, but I’d put in all the training and I was ready for the full 42.2km. Once we got on the train, I looked around and it was full of nervous, spandex clad people all making their way to the start line.   There was one guy in the corner in […]

I ran a marathon.

I still find it hard to believe that I ran a marathon on Sunday. I keep thinking, “Wow, I really did that”. But let’s rewind for a second and recap.  The last post I wrote, I was all but ready to quit and not run, but with the help of a few friends, I managed to pull off something that had felt almost impossible. After writing my last blog post and venting my frustrations, I had friends come out of the woodwork to support me. I had an offer of a place to stay in Burnaby, nice & close to […]
